Microclimates, Climate Change & the Gardener

May 10, 2017

Thank you to everyone who has participated in making the Master Gardener educational series a success.  We are tremendously grateful for the contributions from our partners at Marin Master Gardeners, Abbot Chamber and the Sausalito City Library, and Gary Bartl who did such a fantastic job leading the seminars on Succulents and Pruning.

The next seminar will take place on Thursday June 1st and focus on how climate affects our gardens and how we can adapt our gardens to climate change.  The session will be led by Kathy Hunting, an environmental health scientist and Marin Master Gardener since 2014.

Following the event, feel free to explore the many great gardening books that the library has to choose from.  And for those of you looking to add to your permanent collection, the new Book Passage shop in Sausalito has a wonderful selection of gardening books in stock.

Please email info@sausalitobeautiful.org if you have any questions.

April 04, 2017

We want to extend our deepest appreciation to everyone who was involved in and attended the wonderful Succulents Seminar this past Thursday.  We could not have asked for a better start to what we hope will be an ongoing educational series.  Gary Bartl’s presentation was absolutely riveting, and we are excited to announce that he will be returning for the next seminar on April 27th covering the art and science of Basic Pruning.  Stay tuned for more info!

A special thank you to Abbot Chambers – the Sausalito City Librarian – and Gary Bartl, Arline Rowe and Julie Witz from UCCE Marin Master Gardeners.

A little goes a long way…

March 27, 2017

Many of you may recall that during Beautification Day 2016, Sausalito Beautiful added a few plantings to replace some of the dying Agapanthus at Tiffany Park.

Well, look who came out to play now that Spring has sprung!

Euphorbia characias wulfenii

These beautiful Euphorbia characias wulfenii are now in full bloom.

We hope you will enjoy seeing it next time you drive or walk by Tiffany Park.

Spring has come to Bolinar Plaza

March 19, 2017

If you happen to be out enjoying the recent (and long awaited) sunshine, stop by Bolinar Plaza to see the beautiful pink flowers (aka “branching infloresence”) that the Aloe plants have sprouted.

This variety of Aloe – Aloe x spinosissima – is also known as “Spider Aloe”.  To learn more about this and other succulents, please join us for the upcoming Marin Master Gardener Succulent Seminar on Thursday, March 30th at 7pm in the Sausalito City Council Chambers at 420 Litho St.
