The Bay Model wins Beautification Award

September 21, 2019

Sausalito Beautiful confered Chris Gallagher and the Bay Model Garden the 2019 Beautification Award for Secret Garden. This much deserved award is for the new native pollinator garden, which was planted by the Marin chapter of the California Native Plant Society but was the brainchild of Chris Gallagher. The garden is filled with different wildlife habitats for song birds, hummingbirds, butterflies and bees. It’s also a great place for locals to go for inspiration in their own gardens since all the plants are identified with markers.

Park Renovation Update

September 18, 2019

Attendees of the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting were given an update on the three major park renovations:

  • MLK Park: Irrigation, hydroseeding, and hydromulching is complete but must stay off the grass for 2-3 months. Work on the ballfield will begin soon. The encircling walking path has been officially measured at 0.335 miles.
  • Dunphy Park: Parking Lot should open in early October. 1000 cu yds of “dirty” soil must be removed and new soil brought in. In October, then planting and irrigation will commence. Hydroseeding will be done at the end of October or early November. Then everyone must stay off the grass for 2-3 months.
  • Southview Park: This project hasn’t started in order to focus resources on Dunphy (it’s the same contractor). In fact, it may not get started until after the rains stop.
